Art Students and Faculty Bring Home Advertising Awards

Marywood art students and a faculty member recently won several big advertising awards. They carried on an established tradition of excellence, as Marywood art students and faculty have won top awards, year after year, at the annual American Advertising Federation of Northeast Pennsylvania (AAF of NEPA) Awards Ceremony.

Christine Medley, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, graphic designer, and an exhibiting fine artist, was awarded the Silver Medal Award for her outstanding contributions to advertising and for her active role in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. In addition to the Silver Medal Award, she also won a Silver Addy in the professional competition for her poster series.

David C. Bonomo, senior graphic design student, won the Best of Show Award for the Poster Campaign, “Shakespeare Summer Series.” Casey Nicholas Peckio, senior graphic design student, received the Judges’ Choice Award for Sales Promotion Packaging Campaign titled “Beer Bottle 4 Pack Labels,” and Laura Drapek, senior graphic design student, received the Silver Award for soap packaging design.

There were more than 175 entries total, including 55 student entries. The judging was held at Marywood in January by judges from outside the area. AAF of NEPA is the nation’s oldest national advertising trade association. The only association representing all facets of the advertising industry, AAF is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and acts as the “Unifying Voice for Advertising.” AAF protects and promotes the well-being of advertising through a unique, nationally coordinated grassroots network of advertisers, agencies, media companies, local advertising clubs and college chapters.
