String Project Workshop and Gala Concert (5/2)

Marywood University’s String Project, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is holding a workshop for music educators, followed by a gala concert, “A People’s History of Strings,” on Monday, May 2.  The workshop, which is designed for regional music education directors, runs from 3:30-5 p.m., and the gala concert is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Sette LaVerghetta Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.

The events culminate the String Project’s yearlong race, equity, and inclusion work, which has included developing a new curriculum and working with Skye Steele, a Puerto Rican-American violinist, as a guest artist. The gala concert will feature guest artists Skye Steele and The String People Band. These events were made possible by support from the Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Department-Community Project Grant, Schwartz Mack Foundation, a Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) Fellowship Grant, and The Lawrence Davidow Endowment for String Project.
