Office of Student Success

We're Here to Help

Our team works closely with students who are struggling academically. We provide individual academic counseling and workshops to assist students in being successful here at Marywood. We work the following students:

  • Probationary Students
  • Unclassified Students
  • Students with Deficiencies
  • Enrichment Courses

In addition, we work with students who need to take a leave of absence along with students who are thinking about leaving the University. We try to see if we can identify the reasons for the leave in order to possibly offer some solutions.

We also work with students who miss classes due to unforseen events, such as a death in the family, car accident, or medical issues that will require the student to miss classes for more than one or two days.

We work closely with faculty members using an Early Alert System to identify students who may be academically at risk due to missing classes.

If you would like to connect with one of our Academic Success team members please email us at advising@marywood.edu or give us a call at 570-348-6211 x6043.

Faculty Resources

The Office of Student Success works closely with faculty advisors in order to provide a rewarding advising experience for both advisors and advisees.

In addition to our new faculty advisor training provided each year, we would be happy to offer additional training either on a departmental or individual level. If you are interested in receiving additional training, please contact us at 570-348-6211 x6043 to schedule a training session.

If you have a student in your class who has stopped attending class, is attending class intermittently, or is not completing assignments, this can be an indication of academically at-risk behavior.

If we can reach out to a student, provide solutions, or referrals early in the semester, we may be able to help the student get back on track.

You can email concerns to advising@marywood.edu or call us at (570) 340-6043.

In order for the advising process to be successful, here are some tips to keep in mind.

An effective advisor will:

  • Provide effective guidance to students regarding their education, career, and life goals
  • Create a partnership between the advisee and advisor
  • Help advisees plan their academic programs, identify internships and/or summer work experiences in preparation for their chosen careers
  • Know important dates such as add/drop dates, last day to withdraw, etc.
  • Know processes, such as Leave of Absences, Incompletes, etc.
  • Be available to students
  • Understand the core curriculum in addition to all major requirements
  • Be aware of all campus resources

Our office would be happy to meet with any advisor for an individual refresher session on academic advising.  Additionally, we are always available to answer any questions you may have regarding academic advising.
