Anthony Cernera
Ph.D. student Gives the Gift of Life Through Organ Donation
Mar 23, 2021
Anthony Cernera, a Ph.D. student with a concentration in Student Development at Marywood University, recently gave the gift of life through organ transplant to Martin Yucha, cancer survivor from Warren County. Mr. Yucha desperately needed a liver transplant and was a stranger to Mr. Cernera. Over the holidays in December 2020, Mr. Cernera donated bone marrow and now, part of his liver.
Meeting for the first time outside of UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh, Pa., for a news story, Mr. Yucha said, “It’s just amazing. Someone to give up their liver for me.”
Mr. Cernera said, “It’s such an interesting experience to care about someone’s well-being and not have met them. He’s doing well and looks great. It’s a privilege.”
